The exact model can be found at. I just had this same exact issue with a Patriot drive. I found this article fantasic ( however it did not resolve the issue. I was told by many sites you should just return the memory.
Then I contacted Patriot and they said that I should use their special tool (located at: to do a low level format. Of course this means you loose your data, however it recovered the drive back to working condition. The tech said that this tool only works on Patriot drives so you will likely have to contact PNY for their tool(s). I have a pny myself stuck like this and the pny utility failed and so did another low level format utility i tried and easeus partition master, it didnt do any good for it either. I will do some more rescearch and testing ill post if anything works Hi, I downloaded the patriot restore utility and when I chose 'Restore', (rather than 'Format', at the stat-up screen, the app performed a low level format and my USB stick is useful to me once again. Every other solution offered on this page, and others, failed to achieve this. Thank you Patriot and Paul Neuman. Thank you.after 4 hours of tutorials this worked!! Hi all, I had the exact same problems with the exact same potential solutions that never worked for me. I found a utility tonight that fixed my 32GB PNY usb drive. It's called RecoverToolV2.00.28L0920. I had probably read at least 40 forums with the same problems and this was finally the fix. It allowed me to disable write protection and format the PNY drive and start over.
I did lose all data but I didn't need it. I just wanted to use it. The recovery tool he mentioned is for PNY drives 64GB and lower. It also repairs the write protection problem that originally caused the problem.
It's located at: It's found in the Services tab under: USB Flash Driver Format Tool (Ufix-II). It wasn't easy getting PNY to release the tool from in-house. I had to swear at a few people. They had a 32GB tool that could fix it but it would break the capacity on 64GB models. There are also other available recovery/LLF tools on their site. The recovery program is for Windows only. It does NOT work on a Mac.
I need a MAC solution, not a Windows solution. No one I know uses Windows. Windows solution.
No one I know uses Windows. Short answer: Go to a library, university, or cafe with Windows machines and do it from there. Else look up 'run Windows on Mac', run a virtual Windows on your MAC then format it. I spent weeks just tracking down one to fix my drive and never seen one for Macs (not for PNY disks anyway). Also you should post the type of flashdrive you are trying to format. Knowing the type of flashdrive is VERY important because LFF tools are meant to work on specific drives. Go here to see if one of the available tools might work for you as well.

There are a lot of people with this very issue over many forums and I figure bumping an old thread like this may help them find this place in a google search. Thanks Paul for your post because it actually fixed my imation usb. I just needed to 'restore' rather than 'format' for it to work.
This is the reason I registered, to say thanks. & it's not a dirty download either but an awesome tool I will cherish 4eva.

Hi Bharat I have found a solution for this. First of all there is no problem in the pendrive, it correct. I think, its because of some malware or virus which got into your pc from infected pendrive (as in my case) or from internet. The Solution to use iFlash Tools which I can be found fromt this below website Your task to find our PID and VID no of your USB, then search with those numbers.
Then download tool from the links mention in the search results ( in my case i Used ) For more detail about how iflash visit or read below i is a collection of pendrive recovery tools. If you could find your model there, you'll find out what tool could be used to fix it. Those tools are very low-level and have to be dedicated for specific pendrive, even tool version matters.
Buy cello scores. Free easy cello sheet music scores for beginners with popular public domain melodies. All music sheets are in printable high quality PDF format. Easy solos for beginning cello pdf.
The procedure usually goes like this: first, you have to find product and vendor identifier of your flash drive (PID and VID). One of those has probably been changed (that's why it shows under different name), but iFlash has them listed. To fix the drive, you have to run a program included with your downloaded tool that will let you install alternative drivers for that flash drive. After installing them, it will stop reporting as a flash drive and will enter low-level settings mode. At this stage you'll want to erase entire memory, so you can repartition it correctly later. Then you should restore original PID and VID. After reconnecting, flash drive should appear and it should be possible to format it.
If it won't work, the drive is permanently damaged. Be careful when using those tools, features they offer are quite advanced and you can make things even worse. Remember that not all drives can be fixed, actually chances are quite low. 4 GB pendrives are pretty cheap, messing with low-level tools may not be worth it.
Make sure the write-protection latch of your drive (if it has any) is turned off. If you are using an updated antivirus, try scanning the drive for viruses. Solutions There are many solutions to this problem and actually every one of them may have worked for some users but may not work for you.
Hence I’m trying to enlist all the feasible solutions, so if one doesn’t work, try the other one. Fixing Registry. Press Winkey + R (or just open the Run from Start menu). Type regedit and hit enter. Go to HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control StorageDevicePolicies NOTE: If this is not there, you may need to add this entry. For that download the batch file add.bat from, and double-click the file. The entry will be added to registry.
Now in the right pane double-click the key WriteProtect. Now set the Value Data to 0 (zero) and press OK.
Exit Registry and restart your PC. Now try using your USB Drive. Using Formatting Utility As the solution suggests we will be formatting the USB drive, so backup all the items in the drive first before carrying out htis step. Unzip the pack to a folder.
Now double-click the Start.bat file in that folder. This will initiate the formatting. Wait until the formatting completes or the LED of the drive stops blinking. If you fail once give it few more try. Now remove the pen-drive and plug it in to the PC again. Now, open RUN and type cmd and hit Enter.
Now in the command prompt, type CHKDSK usb-drive-letter: /F. You are done. Trying a low-level format This is yet another solution which will try to solve the problem by using a low-level format. Don’t forget to backup your drive items. Now using it, perform a low-level format of your USB drive. If you fail once give it few more try. Now open RUN and type diskmgmt.msc, hit Enter.
Now right-click the USB Drive and press Format. Now do as shown in the screenshot below. Then press OK. For Transcend USB Drive Users. Transcend has its own Recovery Tool to get rid of this error. Enter your Model No. Of your USB Drive, hit Enter.

Now select the product which which is most similar to yours from search results. Download the mFormat utility. If you are asked for serial no. Enter your product serial no. Or if you don’t have it enter this number:. Plug-in your drive and run the utility to format your drive.
You may need to try this method several times to fix the error. Well as I said earlier that every single trick among all those listed above have solved the problem for many and has not for many others. Lets hope one of these will help you out of the “Write-protection” error. If you fail, feel free to ask.
But if you succeed, please let us know which one worked for you, so that our future readers get a share of your valuable experience. Also, if you feel you have a better idea, let me know via comments.
