The XtreamerTV aim to introduce you a new concept build around a media player and media Streamer. Not only it is one of the most capable Media player in the market, it's doing it putting a special focus on the ability to watch content without download. In a totally different approach than what consumers are used to perceive a Digital Media Playback as of 2013, the XtreamerTv is going to set a new standard in the industry. Anything you saw on media players before will look to you as old and outdated. Its not Good.
I took delivery about 4 weeks ago (first batch) and they've already had to release a firmware update to fix even basic (setup) problems. They have also advertised major features which are not supported. For instance, they have said that you can stream back and forth from an iPad. The reality is that you can stream audio only to the XTV from your ipad or other iOS device. What good is that??? The service is still as appalling as ever.
It takes days before someone comes back to you, and when you use live chat, it seems that the person at the other end doesn't know much about the product. On the plus side, the GUI is much nicer than previous models, and its quite bare (like Apple TV) and so navigation is easy.
For potential buyers, I would wait 6 months and get something that works out-of-the-box, rather than pulling your hair out. I can't even get that far at the moment as the XTV can't seem to find any of my network shares or NAS drives.
It seems that what they've done is come up with a really good spec list, spend some money on nice screen shots and pre-sell the unit. Now that its released, they've got a community of people (like myself) testing the unit and providing them with a list of to-do's in order to make it work.
It was exactly the same with their first product Xtreamer Mk1, which eventually did work, before being superseded by a newer product, with its own problems. None of the other things you mention are there yet. Teh unit first shipped on 10th Jan, the first firmware update was realed 5th Feb with over 50 fixes in it. On the plus side, if you like watching video trailers and music videos, it can do this already, even though basic functionality of what you're probably buying this for, doesn't work. Have a look at the XTV Forum and you'll see others that totally frustrated at being sold something that doesn't deliver. Its not Good. Click to expand.Well I've received the device last week. And sure there's a couple off tweaks that they need to do, but they promissed they would release frequent updates to tweak the device. So far, 2 updates were installed on the device. As far as the device itself. I haven't experienced any problems yet.
It plays everything i hit at it and the image and sound are transfered perfectly to my surround system. A tvshow entry is lacking, but maybe they'll change this in the future. Cool extra features are the 100 hottest videoclips you can watch, the movie trailers that are frequently updated. You CAN play movies to your ipad, but it has to be a file that the Ipad recognizes. So the movie needs to be in MP4 format. Otherwise it doesn't play.
But the feature does work. For now, i'm pleased with how it works. The only thing I miss is that there's no movietrailer available with your movies (what xbmc does do). And you can do little tweaking yourself.
But I like the device and so far xtreamer is doing as promised and updating it frequently. When I Add something to my external disk, shared folder or the internal disk I put it, the device scans the new content and locates a poster for the movie and finds the Dutch short info for the movie (I'm from belgium so I speak Dutch). It does however base the info on the name of you movie, so make sure that the title is correct and maybe add the year of release in the title if more movies are called like this.
Because sometimes it could add the wrong info to the movie. (xbmc does the same). It does this all pretty quick. I do share my content on the network, but most of the time I copy my files to the internal disk, then my pc doesn't have to stay online all of the time. But streaming over network works perfect in 1080p.
(I am however on LAN, haven't tried it over wifi). Like I said, a trailer attached to the movie would be a plus, but for now I'm happy with the device.
The only thing they promissed that doesn't work yet is automatically downloading subtitles. That feature is not available yet. But since most of my content that I download already has the subs included, that doesn't bother me.
Update: Although I'm still having issues connecting to my NAS, I have now inserted a HDD (which I had no plan to do) and indeed it has scanned it and downloaded cover art for movies within it. A move in the right direction. The jukebox thus now works, albeit without a search facility. Speed and resolution is fine. Streaming TO the XTV from ipad still doesn't work, but as robby says, hopefully it will fixed in another update.
Feb 16, 2012 - Hi All. Been getting ID tip of the weeks and all sorts of help from this site for a long time, but just today registered – should have done this a lot sooner! Have a question that I haven't been able to find online. I have a file that I can't open in CS3. It's missing 3 plugins that as far as I can tell, are not available to. Apr 23, 2012 - From MetaDesign Solutions: Introduction:- IndicPlus is an excellent Adobe InDesign and Adobe InCopy plug-in linguistically engineered for these powerful design and desktop publishing softwares. It not only supports Asian languages, but other regional languages of the world as well. Can't open customer supplied file because I don't have worldeady.indesign. Plugin and conditionaltext.idesign plugin. Can I download these. Adobe flash cs3 download. If so, the document has been created in InDesign CS4, and cannot be read by CS3. These plugins. Well, as we've been saying, there's absolutley just no way these files could need the world ready or conditional text plugins without having passed through a version of ID that includes them. I'd love to be.
Its just frustrating that things they have sold on their spec list are not there from day 1. What I did, I gave the xtreamer a fixed IP and then made a new connection to a shared folder on the network. It automatically found the folders I was sharing from my win 7 pc. I did make a new user on my pc (called xtreamer) and give that user modify rights on the folder i wanted to share. On my xtreamertv it came asking for the credentials and once I entered them, I got immediate access to the folder and the device started scanning the share.
We've been something interesting to happen to the Apple TV, but with nary a peep out of Cupertino it seems that creator Scott Davilla has been busy. We've about before: it's a media center application based on XBMC with a social networking spin.
Previously it was limited to Intel Macs running Leopard (and Ubuntu Linux), but it's now been ported to Tiger. That means that it's compatible with the Apple TV, which runs a modified version of Mac OS X 10.4. So what does this mean?
Simply that you can now install the Tiger versions of Boxee or (for Mac) on your Apple TV. First you use need to use Davilla's handy on your Mac to convert a USB flash drive into a patchstick. Then you just need to plug it into your Apple TV, wait for the patch process to complete, and install either Boxee or XBMC from within the plugin.
In the end you get an Apple TV with all the extra functions of XBMC or Boxee including much broader codec support, the social networking features, etc. The atvusb-creator is a from Google Code for Intel Macs. To use Boxee, however, you'll need to request an account.
I downloaded and installed OpenELEC-Ultra.x8664-3.0.2 (using quick install from the menu), overwriting my previous installation (version 2.something, I don't remember) on a flash drive. The installer seem to have finished successfully and I chose to reboot and pulled out the installer flash drive. On boot, I saw a splash screen and then an infinite loop of the following messages ('cannot open display' logs only once, the 'segfault' part is repeated): I also tried using the Live version with a slightly different result: instead of the mentioned messages I would see a screen with a blinking cross in the center of the screen: Funnily enough, after I re-created the installer USB and re-installed OpenELEC with the same parameters, I got the same blinking cross instead of the messages from the first time. Happy to provide any other additional info. My suspicion was confirmed. Apparently when I tried the new version for the first time, my external HDD was turned off (the power cable is short and disconnects sometimes if you move things around). Now that I have it plugged and turned on, OpenELEC 3.0.2 runs successfully, at least the live run (don't have time to install and set up the new version till weekend).
So while the problem disappeared, I don't know why OpenELEC was unable to run with no HDD connected (just the flash drive it's installed on). Is it supposed to be like that? Ok the problem did not go away. I finally got my hands on my HTPC and installed the new OpenELEC version on it again and got the same problem - a blinking cross in the center of the screen on boot (made sure that external HDD is connected but still don't think that's relevant). So it appears that the the Live version boots OK but the installed one doesn't.
More facts:. I'm installing OpenELEC on a usb stick (to be clearer, I'm booting off an installer usb stick and installing the system on another usb stick). One karaoke 2 serial. The external HDD (further HDD) only contains movies. HDD does not have an.xbmc directory in its root ( ls -la) and the quick installer completely wipes the partition on my target usb stick so I'm not sure if the advice about the mentioned directory and clean install is valid.
Correct me if I'm misinterpreting something. I installed the latest stable ION (x8664) release and it works!
Xtreamer Media Player
I only had to change audio output device to make the sound work. So while I managed to install and boot the new OpenELEC, the Xtreamer Release still seems to have issues.
